DEAR DIARY

My mother rarely gives parenting advice (wise move on her part), so the one bit she's given me recently has really sunk in. She told me to write things down, because though I think I'll remember all the wonderful little details about each phase of my boys' childhood (learning to spin until they fall down, first dance steps, drooly first kisses), I likely won't. Each phase will be supplanted by the next and likely, sadly, be lost in my already forgetful mind.

So I'm going to try my best to write it down in as un-precious and un-graphic designerly way as I know how, in the hopes that making it simple will help me do it. With the help of my new polaroid camera (thanks Erica!) and an old comp book that Nick has lying around, off we go. It has been so refreshing to step away from the idea that this thing should be beautiful and that I should go to the Paper Source and cute the heck out of it. I don't have time, and in the end, if it's too much work, I won't do it, and then what's the point?

I'm keeping it in the kitchen so any and all can add to it when they like. So next time you're over, grab the camera, snap a photo, and help me to remember what life was like for my family in that moment. I hope my boys will enjoy looking back on them as much as I know I will.

MUNI LOVE

muni.JPG

Had to share a sweet Valentine's Day design that I can take no credit for – created by my husband the homemade card-making savant. I love the little bus with the hearts (we met on the muni).

Mushy love stuff aside, I'm getting to work on a little project that I can't talk about for another month. It's for a great start-up that combines a few of my favorite things – shopping, sharing great finds with friends, and online services that make stuff easier and better. Stay tuned!!

NEW YEAR'S CARDS ARE HERE!

cards.JPG

Our annual New Year's cards are in from the printer (Essence Printing – thank you Edwin!). How I love the smell of fresh ink. It fills me with a feeling of a) a job well done and b) terror that there's a typo and now there are 10,000 copies of that typo. Or, in this case, 100 copies. But I checked, I'm in the clear for this year. Coming to mailbox near you!
